Stretching Our Limits
(Ages 5-12)

Through games, poses, and mindful breathing we will develop skills to help us find some internal quiet in the noise of everyday life.  


Tina completed her Radiant Child Yoga teacher training after realizing, through her own countless hours of practice, that yoga is a tool everyone should have to help find calm in chaos and balance in an unstable world

*Please bring a yoga mat to class with you. 



All Star Music Squad
(Ages 8+)
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.           Fee: $60
Instructor: Chris Montcalmo

Join us for the All-Star Music Squad where we will learn to sing and appreciate the joy of music.

Kids will sing a variety of songs while learning about basic time signatures, major/minor tonality, and the fundamentals of reading music.

Chris Montcalmo has been playing music in & around the Maryland area for more than three decades. Now a full-time musician, Chris has a minor in music from the University of Delaware. He has sung with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and he is the former lead singer for the rock band Union Jack. Currently, Chris is the director of contemporary music at St. Isaac Jogues, and he currently plays solo acoustic and piano shows all around the state.


Mission Solar System
(Ages 9+)

CLASS FULL: WAITLIST AVAILABLE

NASA and Design Squad Nation have teamed up to inspire a new generation of engineers! This class launches into space exploration with space-based, hands-on engineering challenges. The activities are designed to give kids fun, relevant ways to apply STEM concepts and skills. We will work our way through six challenges created by PBS Kids in collaboration with the NASA K-12 Education Program. Kids will build a "robo arm," change the direction of a speeding object using invisible forces, design and build an airbag system, detect magnetic fields, and much more. They will learn to think like NASA engineers and apply creative problem-solving skills on fun missions! 


Electronics Lab
(Ages 12+)
10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.           Fee: $45
Instructor: Chris Langmead

In this class, we will review fundamental electronics and the students will use an Arduino development board to interface and build interesting circuits.
Each student will need to bring a laptop computer to class, and will need to download a simple Arduino program that Chris will email to you prior to classes starting.


HOUR 2


It's Snacktastic!
(Ages 5-9)
11:05 a.m. - 12:05 p.m.          Fee: $35
Instructor: Kristen Mumaw

Who says we can't play with our food? Edible "bird's nests"? Snacking on a "butterfly"? In this class we will be making yummy, fun, and creative snacks and desserts using common, everyday food... but it will be so much more exciting!

Amazing Animal Adaptations
(Ages 8+)
11:05 a.m. - 12:05 p.m.           Fee: $20
Instructor: Mandee Tejada

CLASS FULL: WAITLIST AVAILABLE


Join us as we again explore more of the super powers of a different variety of animals throughout the animal kingdom and learn why some of these commonly misunderstood creatures are so important to keep around. Examination of causes of declines and potential solutions will be a part of our discussion as well. Citizen science opportunities and resources for optional expansion outside the program will be supplied to support motivated, enthusiastic students.  This course will be a continuation of the previous course, but with no prerequisite to have attended class in the fall.
 


Illustration

The students will work together on creating either a children's book or comic book. We will focus on composing a story and illustrating it so that we have a complete book by the end of the session!  We will utilize watercolor and marker on paper. 



VR in Co-Spaces 
(Ages 12+)
11:05 a.m. - 12:05 p.m.       Fee: $95
Instructor: STAR ACADEMY

Get creative and dive into virtual reality.  Students will continue exploring Co Spaces through the creation of a VR environment.  From the graphics to some of the coding, the students will learn the process and problem solving techniques needed in coding. Each student must supply a suitable laptop/Chromebook with the ability to access the internet. 


HOUR 3



Art History and Techniques 
(Ages 5-10)
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.           Fee: $35
Instructor: Becky McCracken


CLASS FULL: WAITLIST AVAILABLE

We'll learn about different artists and practice the techniques they inspire.  Students will use a drawing journal (if you were in a previous session, you will continue to use the one you have) to practice their expression.  This course will be a continuation of the previous course, but with no prerequisite to have attended class in the fall.

Coding With Scratch

(Ages 7-11)
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.      Fee: $95
Instructor: STAR Academy

Get started on the language of the future - coding!! Students will learn the basics of coding through building games, and projects with Scratch!  Students will be guided through the process of building codes, adding variables and problem solving them.  Each student must supply a suitable laptop/Chromebook with the ability to access the internet. 



Microsoft Office Skills
(Ages 10+)
12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.   Fee: $20
Instructor: Miriam Snare

This course introduces students to the basics of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Each program will be covered over two class meetings. Skills will include page layout, inserting tables and editing capabilities. 

**Students are required to bring a computer with Microsoft Office installed. Homework will be to practice skills learned in class.



Wordplay
(Ages 12+)
12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.           Fee: $20
Instructor: Mandy Wingate


CLASS FULL: WAITLIST AVAILABLE

Join us for a fun and interactive class about writing! Students will be introduced to a variety of hints and techniques to enhance confidence and writing skills.  Sample work will be edited by the group as we look for ways to make improvements.  Bring a notebook to class to respond to quick prompts and practice new skills. No homework will be assigned.
