Intermediate Sewing (CLASS FULL- Waitlist available)

(3rd-8th)

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.           Fee: $40

Prerequisite: Beginner’s Sewing


We will begin with a welcome back refresher and then move on to create a tissue pouch.  For the next two weeks, we will work on advancing our skills while making a "Shark attack" zippered pencil case!  Finally, for the remaining classes, we will make a "Rail fence" 36 x 45" lap quilt (this can be made to match their pillow or pillow case from Sewing 1)!  The basic supplies will be provided, and the students will get to choose their own fabrics again for their designs!

Software Engineering is as easy as Pi

(6th-8th)

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.       Fee: $30

This course involves working in teams to design and implement a program that will run on Raspberry Pi.  We will discuss and work with topics such as operating systems, development environment, designing and implementing, building and executing, and testing software.  At the end of the course the kids should have a better understanding of the Software Engineering process.

Creative Art! (CLASS FULL- Waitlist available)

Let’s get creative! How do Mardi Gras beads, melted plastic and 3D glasses equal art? In this class we are going to do a variety of projects using experimental techniques to create unusual and interesting art.

 


Spanish (CLASS FULL- Waitlist available)

In this introductory foreign language class, students will be introduced the basics of the Spanish language. Topics will include greetings, introductions, counting, family, and home. Much of this class will be conversation based, and students will be expected to speak to one another using Spanish. Independent writing skills (such as copying off a board) are helpful, but not required. Homework is not required for this class, however students are likely to be more successful if they review their vocabulary and practice their speaking at home in between classes!

 


Beginner Sewing (CLASS FULL- Waitlist available)

12:30 p.m. -1:30 p.m.       Fee: $50

After a brief history of sewing, & learning the parts of a machine we will begin making some fun projects!

Using some basic math skills, we will cut & sew a magic pillowcase.   After mastering this we will move on to making a decorator monogram pillow using fusible web transfers, zigzag applique stitches and pillow construction.  Then as we continue to build our skills, we will make a drawstring backpack and a matching zippered pencil case.

Students will provide their own fabric which is minimal for each project (savvy moms can use coupons!).   This gives the child a chance to pick out a favorite color, theme, or character print.  Sewing machines, thread and any sewing tools needed for construction will be provided.

 


If You Were Me and Lived In…

Have you ever wondered what it is like growing up in another country? Join us as we learn about life around the world, from a child's point of view. We will learn about different cultures, sample their food, do crafts, discuss their celebrations and day to day life using the book series “If You Were Me and Lived…” by Carole P. Roman.  (This class will focus on 6 new countries, not previously discussed.) 

Must have good spelling & writing skills!

 


Baltimore History

Little Italy, Fells Point, Federal Hill, Fort McHenry?  How did these areas come to be what they are today? What is so special about the Baltimore Basilica? Why are those ships in the Harbor?  How did Baltimore get its name? Join us as we take a historical view of Baltimore through discussions, crafts and projects.
